Compress Image for Instagram
Compress and resize your photos to Instagram's recommended 1080px feed size without needing to learn about resolution or quality settings.
Instagram uploads the full-resolution file you give it — a 12 MP phone photo is a lot of wasted bytes for a feed post that displays at 1080 px. Resizing to 1080 px on the longest side and re-encoding as a high-quality JPEG keeps your post sharp and uploads much faster, both on Wi-Fi and cellular data.

Compression strategy
- Instagram stores feed photos up to 1080 px wide; anything larger is downscaled by their servers anyway.
- Portrait 4:5 photos (1080 × 1350) take up more of the feed and perform better than square.
- High-quality JPEG (quality ~88) is effectively indistinguishable from the original for photos while being several times smaller.
- Photos with transparency are kept as PNG/WebP since JPEG does not support an alpha channel.
FAQ
What is the best resolution for Instagram photos?
1080 px on the longest dimension. Instagram never displays feed images larger than 1080 px, so a 4032 px photo is pure overhead. We downscale to 1080 px for you.
Will compression make my Instagram post blurry?
No. At 1080 px with a high JPEG quality the image is visually identical to the original. Blur comes from resizing below Instagram's display size, which we never do.
Does Instagram compress my image again?
Instagram performs its own server-side processing, which is exactly why feeding it an already-optimized 1080 px JPEG gives the cleanest result. Our wording stays honest: we optimize a compatible master, we don't guarantee Instagram skips re-encoding.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser with the Canvas API. Your file never leaves your device.
